Industrial Waste in Hamble Le Rice

Hamble-le-Rice is a village of 4,695 people at the 2011 census, south-east of Southampton at the tip of the Hamble peninsula, bounded by Netley, Butlocks Heath, Bursledon, Southampton Water and the River Hamble.

It is a boating village above all else. The river is often packed with marine traffic through the summer, there are three marinas, and several sailing clubs. Access around the marinas and the waterfront is tight, and parking near the moorings is limited — so a clearance here frequently means a carry rather than parking at the door.

The village splits into two quite different halves: The Square has a traditional village character with older, tighter property, while small industrial areas — mostly marina-related — sit close by. Household and commercial work here need different planning, so it helps to say which you have.

There is real aviation history too. Over 500 aircraft were built here during the Second World War, including Spitfires, Lancasters and Wellingtons, and the Hamble College of Air Training operated from 1960. Both airfields have since gone — the south one entirely, the north one to housing — so parts of the village are modern estate stock with much easier access.
